HPCI Parent Network Update – 22 October

Just a short email from HPCI this week, bringing you information on:

  • New Sports-based Short Break Offer
  • Webinars after half-term
  • Parenting courses in Hertfordshire
  • Volunteer to use your skills to drive change in Hertfordshire

New Sports-based Short Break Offer

Earlier this year, HPCI ran a survey to understand whether families would be interested in a sports-based Short Break offer in Hertfordshire. The views of parents and carers were shared with Herts County Council and I’m pleased to say that a new sports-based service has been set up.

Details of the half-term play scheme are in the poster below and the SBLO platform is now updated so eligible families will be able to search and book their hours with this provider if they wish to do so. We also understand that, as well as the half-term play scheme, there will also be a Saturday provision starting from 30 October.

Webinars after half-term

The HPCI webinar programme kicks off with a bang after half term with a new session on Tribunals and how to lodge an appeal, which is running on Tuesday 2 November (10:00 – 11:00) and Wednesday 3 November (19:30 – 20:30).  Before Christmas we will also be running sessions on Home Education, EHCP annual reviews, Making Meetings Matter and part 2 of the Tribunals series – after you have lodged your appeal.  I am also talking to a firm of solicitors about running a session for us in November on Wills, Trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters – watch this space for more information!

Parenting courses in Hertfordshire

If you’re looking for support and advice on parenting, one quick way to find out what is available locally is to use the Hertfordshire parenting courses directory.  While these are not all SEND specific, members may find this to be a helpful additional tool in finding support: Check out the courses on offer.

Volunteer to use your skills to drive change in Hertfordshire

You may remember getting an email from us recently about the opportunity to apply to be an HPCI Board member.  Applications will close on 31 October – visit our website to find out more about how you could make a difference for families with SEND in Hertfordshire.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a restful half-term, for those of you with children in education.

All best wishes,

Kate Hudson
