This is one of two updates for you this week.  This first one focuses on local information and updates for Hertfordshire with 6 items in total.  The second one, scheduled for later in the week will be more general and national information for parents.

Sensory Processing workshops for parents and carers
The children’s occupational therapy service is running free online sessions throughout the autumn term. The sessions provide initial information, strategies and advice for families to implement at home with their child.

SEND Toolkit update
Last year the first edition of Hertfordshire’s SEND Toolkit was launched. HPCI parent reps had worked with practitioners from Herts for Learning and Herts County Council to produce this for education settings.  The second edition with some new material is available now, free to download, from Herts for Learning’s website. https://www.hertsforlearning.co.uk/resources/send-toolkit-second-edition
Paper versions were available last year but have sold out.  However there are plans to make paper copies of the new and updated pages available to purchase in the near future.

Short Breaks Local Offer for this Autumn Term
The Autumn offer has been published on the Local offer website:
This information has also been emailed to all parent carers with an active account on the SBLO online system.  The online system is still not available to access by parents and carers due to the ongoing coronavirus situation.

Survey launched on moving and handling training for parent carers
HPCI is working on a project with Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT) to offer free moving and handling training sessions for parent carers of children and young people 0- 18 years.  The training is for those whose children have significant physical needs and who currently use specialist equipment in their home OR may need to in the future.  The aim of the sessions is to help parent carers move and handle their children safely and effectively. The training also aims to help prevent long term damage to the physical health of parent carers. The sessions would be run face to face in small groups.  The survey will help to ensure that the training meets the needs of the parent carers who attend.  The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete and will close on 1st November  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/hpciMHTr
Please note: parents on our network who have told us that their child has a physical disability will receive a separate email just about the survey.

This blog looks at all the work that has gone into reviewing and refreshing the PfA pages on the SEND Local Offer.  PfA focuses on young people with SEND aged 14 years and up. Parent reps and network members from HPCI were involved in this work.
